Permify Hydroponics

The Kratky Method will be tried out on the Permify headquarters in Memramcook.

Using rainwater, seaweed, and bonemeal as the nutrient solution, it should be possible to grow food in a bucket on the site. There are many, many videos showing how Kratky works and what results you can expect.

One of the examples I've seen, where the farmers are using Kratky on a scale large enough to require a booth at the farmer's market is the couple at Bialaki Farms. Their YouTube channel can be found here:

They are running a bit bigger than a bucket system, with larger tanks to hold the system. I like the way they've designed their tank lid, which avoids using polystyrene foam, but instead uses a frame similar to a framed painting canvas.

I think I'll be sticking with buckets, as I see it as modular. For instance, if there's a disease in one plant, I don't have to lose the whole bed of plants, I can simply remove the single bucket from the system and keep the disease from easily spreading.

I also think the buckets can be more easily cleaned between harvests, especially if an efficient cleaning station is set up.

I often take notes in Google Slides, and my notes about Kratky are no exception. The contents may change from day to day as I add more information. Just remember...these are notes, not any kind of final document of Here it is.

Kratky Hydroponics

I'll be adding information, maybe some videos, maybe some photos to this page really soon, as I build and grow using the Kratky Method.

I hope it turns out to be as good Permaculture concept as I think it will. I just have to make sure it fits in the 3 ethics.

I'm also wondering that if it does work very well, maybe my headquarters can sell a single, final product, bottled rabbit stew.

The way that works is, much of the waste in the system, i.e., roots, leaves, etc., could go to feed the rabbits, or they can eat the good stuff too.

Then I have all the ingredients for rabbit stew. Cook up one batch after another, bottle/can it, and sell it as a value added product as well as store plenty for the family.

All the rabbit manure can be added to the soil in the trees surrounding the property. No waste, just goodness.

And it can expand, if I want. More buckets, more rabbits, more rainwater catching systems. There's no shortage of seaweed around here right now. Bonemeal is cheap.

Yeah, this could be a good business that can be set up in so many places.
